Beat music is a genre that emerged in the early 1960s and is often associated with the British Invasion. It is characterized by its catchy melodies, simple chord progressions, and emphasis on rhythm and beat. While beat music shares some elements with both rock and pop music, it is generally considered to be a subgenre of rock music due to its roots in rock and roll and its influence on the development of rock music in the 1960s. However, it also has strong pop sensibilities, with its focus on hooks and accessibility, leading some to classify it as a form of pop music as well. Ultimately, beat music can be seen as a bridge between rock and pop, incorporating elements of both genres. **

This is in contrast to absolute music, which is music that is purely instrumental and does not have a specific narrative or program associated with it. Program music often includes descriptive titles or program notes to guide the listener in understanding the intended imagery or story behind the music. **
