The NSDAP, or National Socialist German Workers' Party, developed from a small nationalist and anti-Semitic political group in post-World War I Germany. Under the leadership of Adolf Hitler, the party gained popularity by exploiting the economic and social turmoil in the country. Through propaganda, charismatic leadership, and a focus on German nationalism, the NSDAP was able to attract a wide range of supporters, eventually becoming the largest party in the German Reichstag by the early 1930s. The party's rise to power was further facilitated by the Great Depression, which increased discontent among the population and allowed the NSDAP to capitalize on the situation. **

Yes, the NSDAP (Nazi Party) under Hitler can be considered populist. Hitler and the Nazi Party appealed to the grievances and fears of the German people, particularly the middle and lower classes, by blaming their problems on scapegoats such as Jews, communists, and other minority groups. They used propaganda and rhetoric to create a sense of unity and identity among the German people, promising to restore their national pride and economic prosperity. The party also sought to mobilize mass support through rallies, marches, and other public events, effectively harnessing the power of popular sentiment to advance their political agenda. **

The NSDAP, or Nazi Party, came to power in Germany through a combination of legal means and coercion. While they initially gained power through democratic elections, they later used violence and intimidation to suppress opposition and consolidate their control. Their actions, including the suspension of civil liberties and the establishment of a totalitarian regime, undermined the legitimacy of their government. Additionally, their policies of discrimination, persecution, and ultimately genocide further delegitimized their rule. Therefore, many would argue that the NSDAP was not a legitimate government. **

Some Jews who were early members of the party were later persecuted and killed during the Holocaust.
